REAL WEDDING: MEMPHIS AND BRAD

Memphis emailed us with one of the most unique requests we’ve ever received: She asked for a "dead" wedding. Given her and Brad’s personal style, she wanted to surprise their families who she assumed would expect them to go black in colour scheme. Instead, she wanted to shock everyone with an all white wedding, but still goth, "dead" in theme, and on the floral front, swamp inspired. You can imagine our faces when that first intro call ended, umm YES PLEASE!

An all-white ‘DEAD’ wedding at district 28 in toronto

Memphis and Brad used our Event Design service, meaning they had already booked the venue (District 28- white walls and a blank slate!) and service-based vendors, but needed help bringing the look together and making it visually stunning. Based on Memphis and Brad’s vision, we designed the ceremony arch and tablescapes, sourced all aesthetic-based vendors and materials including the florist, and with our team of artists and fabricators, brought it to life!

For the arch, we scoured the internet for the perfect reclaimed church window to serve as a backdrop for the wedding ceremony, adding a touch of sacred elegance to the day. Flower Treasures decorated it with dried, dead and bleached materials like pampas grass, decorative branches, bleached amaranth, dried hydrangeas, and fresh white funeral lilies; the florals crept up the arch and created a mesmerizing focal point to the cool white room.

minimalist gothic tablescapes

Table settings were sleek and minimal with a black and white aesthetic. We paired black flatware and candle holders with stark white table cloths and natural linen napkins and runners. For a bit of gothic interest, we chose white chargers with an antique, Victorian feel, to add texture yet also blend with the tablescape. The frosted white stemware was sexy and modern, and we loved the minimal-gothic aesthetic that we created. When the lights went down the white candles were glowing and it was absolutely stunning.

handmade mushroom bell jar centrepieces

We at Mad Bash make a ton of DIY decor for our events, and our absolute favourite of the year were these mushroom bell jar centrepieces that our team made from various mushrooms and mosses. They were a complete show stealer and even fogged up as the night went on, a magical addition. Making them was easy, fun, and elevated this gothic tablescape to the next level. Paired with the dried floral arrangements of grasses, seed pods, and branches in neutral colours, the tablescapes were rich and interesting, while still being pared back and minimal. The contrast was amazing.

jaw-droppingly gorgeous fashion choices

When the couple arrived we were completely wowed. From the Jesus-inspired crown of thorns, to the fully spiked and studded tuxedo jacket, their fashion choices were next level, and they looked literally gorgeous and incredible. Memphis changed gowns and had a black dress as well as a white one - despite her best attempt I guess she couldn’t say no to a little bit of black!

We felt incredibly lucky to work with a couple as unique and edgy as Memphis and Brad, and to play a role in this extremely creative wedding. As designers, having a couple come with such as distinctive vision - dead and swampy?! is so inspiring. This is why after over 15 years in the wedding business we still love what we do!
